Obituary of Carl Lindner

Please share a memory of Carl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carl Lindner's life will be celebrated Friday with a parade stretching from Great American Ball Park downtown to a finale near one his favorite restaurants, Trio in Kenwood. The parade carrying Lindner's body will start at 9 a.m. and be completed about 10:30 a.m. A restored United Dairy Farmers milk truck will accompany the procession through Cincinnati. Lindner, chairman of American Financial, former principal owner of the Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati's most successful entrepreneur, died Monday at age 92. Lindner's funeral will be private. His family has requested memorial gifts be given to Kenwood Baptist Church, 8341 Kenwood Road, 45236. The route of the parade "encompasses many, but certainly not all, of the people, churches, homes, buidlings, organizations and programs that were close to Mr. Lindner's heart." The Lindner family has planned the parade as a public goodbye to Lindner, the former Cincinnati Reds principal owner who is the region's most successful entrepreneur. He died late Monday night at age 92. The parade will leave Great American Ball Park, travel past the Dixie Terminal and go north on Vine Street and east on Fifth Street past Fountain Square. It will wind through downtown streets, passing the AFG-owned Cincinnatian Hotel, the Lindner-funded Otto Armleder School and then Music Hall. The West End location of the Carl Lindner YMCA is another destination, along with Christ Hospital in Mount Auburn, where Lindner died. The parade will travel past the Carl H. Lindner College of Business at the University of Cincinnati, and later will travel up Montgomery Road in Norwood, past the site of the first Lindner Ice Cream Shop and the offices of United Dairy Farmers. It also will pass several houses in Norwood where Lindner lived as a child. No streets will be closed.
