Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
O'Neill Helen F. (Van Gombos) passed away peacefully on June 7th, 2015 at the age of 102. She is survived by her sister, Catherine M. Van Gombos of Washington DC and her son John O'Neill and daughter in law Cynthia Bucco of Cincinnati, daughter in law Thelma O'Neill of Ottumwa, Iowa, grandchildren John, Christine, Karen and Barry O'Neill, Elizabeth Rich, Mary Helen and Teresa Hemschoot, 8 great grandchildren and one great great grandson along with many other nieces and nephews. Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, her children William O'Neill, Ann Hemschoot, and Louis O'Neill, her brothers Charles and Edward, and her sisters Bertha and Elizabeth. Helen and her siblings enjoyed many experiences that we only know as past history today such as riding the Mt. Adams incline and travelling to the “Coney Island of the West”, which we still know today as Coney Island, on the steamboat Island Queen. Helen had four children and the family purchased a home in Blue Ash, Ohio back when the area was still a very rural community. Blue Ash was so far removed from the metropolitan area of the time that the only transport to and from the area was by Greyhound bus if you did not have an automobile. Helen and the children had many exciting adventures traveling to and fro via the Greyhound bus service. Helen lived in her Blue Ash home for nearly 60 years until becoming a resident of the Lodge Retirement Community in 2002. She will be included in a Mass of Intentions at St. Saviour Catholic Church, 4118 Myrtle Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45236 at 8:00 AM on Friday July 31st, 2015. Memorials in Helen's name may be made to the Lodge Nursing and Rehab Center, 9370 Union Cemetery Rd, Loveland OH,45140 or to Hospice of Cincinnati, 4310 Cooper Rd., Cincinnati, OH, 45242.
