Mary, I am saddened to read of Charles' passing. I am in Australia visiting Karen and family until October 12 so will miss his memorial service. I am so glad he was able to share in the induction ceremony for the Monroe High School Academic Hall of Fame in May and I have pictures to remember him from that event. Our paths crossed several times after I first met him and had him as a prof at the OSU School of Music. I have always held both you and him in high regard. I'll be in touch when I get home.

A finer person you will not meet. I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Benner a few times during the course of making the LMHS Documentary. What a treasure he was to work with. I know he will be missed by many.

To the family of Charles Benner-I extend my most heartfelt condolences at the death of a dear man who will always live in my memory. A gentle, kind and truly professional man who guided so many of his students in the discipline he valued and loved - music education. Ohio State was fortunate to have him and I was blessed to have him as mentor, friend and reference for my first job in the 60's at Wyoming Jr-Sr High School (one of his early positions). God Bless you, Charlie, you meant so much to so many, and made a real difference in my life. Fred Meister
