So many memories of Gil - "walking" his dogs down the Bluff from his car is a fond memory. Gil was a role model for both of our children through Young Life. The Hopkins were great neighbors on Hammerstone. Gill touched a lot of lives!

Joann, We just heard about Gil. We have wonderful memories of him through Young Life. We also loved watching him "walk the dog" on the bluff from his car. He was a very caring man. Bob and Barb Smith

Thank you and see you later, darling man. You will always have a place in the hearts of all us "kids" who loved you and who are different people because we crossed paths with you. We will RUN to see you in Glory. And thank you, JoAnn, for sharing Gil so generously with us. My prayer is that you are sensing God's presence right now closer than your very breath.

I am saddened to hear the news of Gil's passing. I am so grateful to have been back in Cincy for the 40th anniversary of YoungLife and see Gil and thank him for the influence he had in my life. I can remember the first time I saw Gil when Chuck Osburn took me to TBC and I experienced seeing my first miracle - hundreds of high school kids coming out to hear an "old man" talk at 6:30 AM in the morning. Only the deep faith that Gil had in the Gospel of Jesus Christ could lead to such an amazing ministry to kids. I am in the ministry today because Gil had the gracious willingness to invite an inexperienced novice like me to serve on the YL staff. My experience on YL staff working with Gil gave me the confidence to consider the ordained ministry, something I would have never in my wildest imagination envisioned. I will be eternally grateful for tremendous example Gil was of a dedicated disciple of Christ and great Christian leader. Gil can now affirm these words of the Apostle Paul, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing." 2 Tim 4:7-8

JoAnn, I am so sorry to hear of Gil's passing. I know from our few talks that he has been struggling for a while. I know it has left a huge void in your heart, as you were together a LONG time...many wonderful years I do not doubt. You were so blessed to have each other and I can only imagine the loss you must feel. I rest assured that your wonderful sense of humor kept him going. What an inspiration you two have been to many people. Godspeed to him and please know you are in my prayers.

Wow... the passing of an era. I still remember the very first time I met Gil-- white shoes, white belt, plaid pants, (he had style!), meeting with us immediately after we'd made our commitment to Christ when Bruce Thielmann preached at College Hill Presbyterian Church in January 1968. Gil was leading a discussion group on Philippians from the "Good News for Modern Man New Testament" (YES, 'Modern Man'-- remember it was '68) that Jerry Kirk gave us. And I still have that New Testament. Then Gil came back from being with Chuck Miller and introduced the idea of Teen Breakfast Club-- and we were off on a life-changing adventure. And I was in Gil's first 'Campaigner Group.' Bless you, JoAnn, for welcoming us into your home and for releasing Gil to be with us! Bless the Lord! Can't wait to see him in Glory. 1 Corinthians 15:51-58
