Oh, Bad Betty! How much emptier my world will be. In a lucky lifetime one meets a handful of Important People- those with whom one immediately bonds. A love formed which is stronger than mere contact might explain. You and your family are such like to me. I will never forget our times together, your broad sense of humor, your generosity as friend, listener, hostess. Some of the most delightful weekends of my life took place in your home. You were never a stranger, as it was also with your Sheila who went on before you. While my heart breaks that you are gone, I cannot find sadness in it. I am gratified that you are at rest, in no physical discomfort. And in keeping with your faith, I am hopeful that you and Sheila are cracking some white zin and planning the next party. Of course, your teasing of Tom II will need to be more surreptitious, since I expect that he has been waiting for you and it is not likely to stray far from earshot at first. He will, of course, know everyone by now, the history of the place, and the best hangouts. And while I do not wish my time here to be short, I do look forward to joining the party when my time comes. All my love, and that of my family, both living and dead, to you, Tom, Sheila, and your family still waiting here. (My regards to Tom I, though I never met him.)
