When I was about 15 years old, my dad took me over to Mrs Moore's house in Madisonville to move some stuff around for her. When we were done, I was looking at stuff in her basement and came across an old Zenith Radio. Everything on that radio was original, all the way down to the needle for the turntable. It even had the original manual and advertising stickers (which weren't really sticking any longer).
I was amazed by this radio, especially being a 15 year old and interested in this stuff. Mrs Moore asked me if I liked it. What kid woudn't! She told me if I could get it working, I could have it. It wasn't playing sound any longer. None the less, I was so excited. My dad told me I could fix it for her, but keeping it wasn't going to happen.
I got it home and started taking the back off. A mouse, from the looks of it, had climbed in the back and had chewed a small speaker wire. That was an easy fix. The following weekend, my dad and I threw it in the back of the truck, and took it back to her. Once she saw it she told my dad, "I gave that to Brian." I was so happy she wanted me to have it.
I still have that old radio. It has gotten me into more vinyl in the last few years. Mrs Moore, I will always take good care of it.
I will miss you. You have always been so close to my family.
Love you,
Brian Griffith
