HEITHAUS Richard J., loving husband of Charmaine (nee Beier) for 63 years, devoted father of Richard P. and Nancy Twiggs, devoted grandfather of Dylan Johnson, dear brother of Marjorie Sheanohong and Don Heithaus. He liked sports, playing chess and being an amateur magician. December 29, 2014. Age 90. During World War II he was very proud to have served his country from 1943-1946 with the 874th combat Glider Battalion in the battles for New Guinea and the Philippine Islands including the big invasion force of the Philippines. He was awarded five ribbons, three battle stars, the combat Glider Trooper Wings, the expert marksmanship badge, a Purple Heart recipient and many other medals and citations from President Truman, the President of the Philippines and general Hap Arnold. He held the rank of Technical Corporal. He was a lifetime member of the disabled American veterans and was a member of their Commanders Club. He was awarded a Bronze Leader for his service to helping other disabled veterans in their time of need. The family will receive friends On Friday January 2, 2015 from 11am until time of funeral service 12noon at the Thomas-Justin Memorial 7500 Montgomery Rd. (45236) in Kenwood
