My Uncle Wayne was a man who cared very much for his family, relatives and friends, and could be counted on to help if he was able to do so. I believe Uncle Wayne tried hard to live a simple, honest, hardworking life, live up to his obligations and always tried to do the best he knew how to do. I respected him for his integrity, sense of honor and knew that his word was his bond. Even though he was a quiet man, who did not wear his emotions on his sleeve, I always felt a deep sense of kindness and inner strength. To me, it is not necessarily what a man says that reveals his true character, but rather his deeds towards others. My sisters, brother and I feel we were really blessed to have had wonderful people in our lives, and Uncle Wayne is one of those blessings. I often turn to poetry for comfort, and wrote this small token to offer comfort to his sons and their families and for all of us that loved my Uncle Wayne.” "Our Heart’s Only Solace" One November day you fell into an eternal sleep, As your loved ones grew sad and began to weep, For it is so hard for our hearts to actually believe, That you cannot hear our plaintive pleas not to leave, But you only heard the voices of those who went before, Who beckoned you to come to a serene heavenly shore. Sometimes memories bring comfort and make us smile, But there are times when grief takes over for a while; Friends offer gentle words and prayers to console, And tell us what has happened to your loving soul. Can it be true what they say of time healing grief? Is it enough when they say death has given you relief? Some tell us that you are in a much a better place, Where you peacefully rest in God’s loving embrace; We should be happy you’re free of pain and sorrow, And rejoice that you will always have tomorrow, But still our hearts ache for the one we hold dear, With only love and memories to help keep you near. Yet, we know that your kind soul wants no tears or pain, Instead, you’d want warm memories and love to remain; Although we cry and stand grief-stricken by your grave, We promise not to forget the loving memories you gave. Our heart’s only solace is one day we’ll see you as before, Beckoning us to come join you on a serene heavenly shore.
