I was in a group of original mothers with Susan. She was always so supportive to everyone. What really shined through from her remarks was her love for her husband, children and grandchildren. My heart goes out to you all. It's just not fair when those we love get taken from us so young. Susan will definitely be an angel looking over all of you.

My heartfelt condolences to your family at this time. I knew Susan through her work for adoptees and first mothers. She was a wonderful advocate for adoptees and a supportive friend to first moms. She will be sorely missed, but her memory will live on.

Susan was a tireless and fearless advocate for adoptees and birthparents. She spoke out about an experience that many keep private, and as such she helped countless people. With the strong support of her family, Susan showed up and participated both publicly and behind the scenes. She was fearless and provided a voice for many - locally, across the state and nationally. That will not be forgotten. Susan was cherished and will be greatly missed. Betsie Norris, founder and executive director Adoption Network Cleveland and co-leader Adoption Equity Ohio

Larry, Kristin, Paulie, Maria, Taffy, Judy, Holly, and all the rest of Susan's family, We share a genetic or marriage connection, but I like to think we would have connected anyway. Bob-o has so many childhood memories of Milwaukee fun & Cincinnati fun---guess the Barnes genes just lead to fun! Betty the Great was Bob's godmother & took me (an out-law) right into her heart. Reunions past & the one Suzie MacClurg & Susan were anxious to plan for this summer, but it was not to be.. Susan used her Hospice experience & family love to support our sister Cheri Darling Read in her cancer battle in 2007. Susan & I became frequent emailers keeping family updates and my friendship grew closer as a result. Shared our lives, our joys, our concerns...ourselves. I believe God gives us moments & people that change us forever. As I read the grim May email about her cancer, I recalled our January dinner in Milwaukee at our home...priceless time together. My last phone conversation was week before she died. We knew we were saying good-bye. Always find this part of our faith hard to deal with... saying a physical good-bye. Know she's organizing eveyone in her new home, oh wait, Helen & Betty have been residing there & have it ready for her. :) Know she is with you, in your dreams & all the up/down things to come. Peace, Love & Prayers to you all. Bob-o & Mary

Larry, Susan wore many hats-wife, mother, sister, grandmother, community leader and friend. We saw her as a strong woman who loved her family. She was loved and admired by a wide circle of people she touched during her productive life. Together, you created a strong family that has touched many more. We're so glad ours was one of them. We will miss her. Love, Elve, Sandy, Candace and Whitney Ellis

I met Susan Anthony a few years ago when I joined Soteni International as a board member. It has been a blessing to observe, engage and experience the enthusiasm that Susan Anthony had and brought to the meetings as we deliberated on issues that focused at helping those in need through Soterni programs in Kenya. Susan your enthusiastic engagement and commitmment inspired me and will continue for a long time. May your cherished desire for Soteni be fulfilled through those of us you touched and inspired.
Thank you and may your soul rest in eternal peace,
Blessings,
Daniel Odipo (board member Soteni International).

Susan was a truly remarkable adoption activist and advocate for the rights of birthmothers and adoptees in Ohio. I had the privilege of working with her on several projects over the years and know Susan to be someone who never hesitated to step forward and donate her energy, ideas, time and strong voice to help support those who have experienced loss and separation through adoption. Susan co-founded the Cincinnati chapter of our organization, Ohio Birthparent Group, and facilitated monthly support groups for birthparents in the Tri-State area. She also worked with Adoption Equity Ohio and Adoption Network Cleveland on the successful 2013 legislative campaign in Ohio that gives adult adoptees access to their original birth certificates. We are grateful for her compassion, her generous spirit and her passion for supporting the rights of birthparents and adoptees. Ohio Birthparent Group thanks you, Susan, and will miss you. All our love and prayers to her family, Kate Livingston Founder, Ohio Birthparent Group
