"GOD BLESS CONNIE'S FAMILY MEMBERS" What time does to us who are left behind is unsurmountable heart wrenching. Live to the fullest for tomorrow we never no. There are all kinds of saying & verses--- none helps more than time itself. For Myself, "I need more time".
Connie was one in a million. He was helpful, considerate, trustfworthy, & just one great big Dude. He got me drunk the very !st evening on campus. He also saved my hindend from getting whipped while trying to get back to French Dorm.
One practice our Sr. Yr., George Smith (GOD BLESS); wanted us to get more aggressive. Being defensive minded I stepped in front of Connie while He was driving very hard toward the bucket. We went flying. It was a strategic definsive move until Connie looked Me right in the eye and said, "if you ever do that again, you are going to look like a squshed grape". -- And He meant it.
Mike Mendenhall & Connie were VERY close friends. It was a wonderful experience in life to have lived in the same dorm with Mike & CONNIE.

Although there have been many years since our last meeting I have always considered Connie one of the very special people I have met.
In his early high school days he was self conscience about his height and took a fair amount of kidding but always laughed it off and on occasions turned the comment around on the initiator.
When looking for Connie the first place to look was the basketball court. Even on the coldest day in winter Connie would practice on an outdoor court, wearing only a school sweater over a tee shirt.
As his basketball fame grew he never lost sight of his classmates and friends and always had time to spend with them.
When Connie was drafted by the Syracuse Nationals and played the Knicks and other teams at the old Madison Square Garden I would try to get to the games and meet with him. In high school, his close friends had given him a knick name that was not widely known. After the game, when it was difficult to reach Connie through the crowd this knick name would immediately get his attention and lead to a friendly meeting and many times a late supper reunion.

Dear Connie, my sisters can get a bit wordy; therefore, I will try to keep this short (but not boring.) My sissies, my mommy, and I will love Robyn every chance we get. For me personally, I would appreciate some sign of sorts, if you do indeed encounter a unicorn, or get to sit on a cloud, and hang out with Jesus. I already believe in these things, but a little symbol would be nice…unless you are too busy being peaceful…then don't worry about it.
We will miss you, but we know you are going to have peace and fun.
Honestly, I am a bit jealous, but Mom says that is Wrong, so I will try to be "normal."
I Love You,
Mykal

Connie, I hope I don't sound overly-confident as a nine year old triplet, but I am the wisest of the three of us (even though Mykal thinks she is.) I have told Mommy all about Heaven and the peace that is there. She looks at me strangely sometimes, but she knows I don't lie. We will miss you, and we will make sure Robyn is good. You have fun, and please tell God we said Hi.
Love,
Mayson Grace
P.S. He Really Liked us A Lot! I told Mom she was lucky he even let us come down to be with her.

Connie, I know, with all my heart, that you are in a more peaceful place now. We will miss you. I always loved seeing you exercising as our "bootcamp class" circled the track at Tri-Health. I remember the exact spot where you were. Why were you the ONLY one who was always smiling? I think it's because you weren't in my class; therefore, you had no reason to dislike me. Anyway, I loved seeing that smile of yours, every time we made a lap. I know you are smiling now. Thank you for always supporting mine and Robyn's friendship, and for not getting mad at me for making fun of how often you shined your shoes….Little over board there, Connie, but I love ya anyways!
Love,
BJ
P.S. Don't worry about Robyn. You know how much I love her, and I will make sure that she is fine.

Deepest sympathies from our family to yours on the loss of a gentleman and one of the iconic figures in Cincinnati sports. The roots (and affection) still run deep for those who were associated with the Royals when they were in town. I am glad to hear, though, through John Erardi's column that your dad's good health was such that he was able to continue golfing right up until almost the very end!

I am saddened to read about one of my earliest hero's passing. I still have his picture taken at my house in Shaker Heights. My late father arranged for Connie to have dinner with my family in our home. I was about 16 years. We had recently moved from Cincinnati to Cleveland and we were avid Bearcats and Royals fans. Connie was so nice to my family. I believe he was playing in the ABA. As his daughter said " rich or poor" he found time for everyone. Over dinner that evening he made a statement which has stuck with me for 50 years. I am quitting basketball because I hate to fly and there is no money playing the game. I am 66 years old now; however his passing brings me back to when I was a teenager. He was a giant of a man in everyway. R.I.P. Mr. Dierking.
