Obituary of Kathleen Ione Johnson

Kathleen Ione (nee Kline) Johnson, a lifelong Cincinnatian, was born on September 30, 1928, to Carolyn Cornelia (nee Guckenberger) Kline and Carl Richard Kline. She graduated with honors from Withrow High School in 1946 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, also with honors, in Classical Studies from the University of Cincinnati in 1950. She then went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in the same field, graduating with honors. Prior to her marriage she was a caseworker for the Hamilton County Welfare Department, now known as Job and Family Services. On November 25, 1955, she married Philip Constans Johnson and remained married to him for 51 years until his death in 2007. She was the mother of three children—Janet Langhorst (Gary), Richard Johnson (Sharon Agar) and David Johnson (Dr. Anne Pringle). Her seven grandchildren are Abigail Langhorst (David Gardner), Benjamin Langhorst; Nicholas, Matthew, and Stephen (Huck) Agar-Johnson; and Zoe and Penelope Johnson. Kathleen was active in several organizations, especially Knox Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon, an elder, a Sunday School teacher (often with Philip) as well as regularly volunteering with the church’s ministry with the Found Home/Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Cincinnati. She also served as a member of Kindervelt of Cincinnati, benefiting Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Kathleen was a passionate and lifelong Cincinnati Reds fan and was a member of the Rosie Reds for many years. Kathleen died on May 2, 2024, at Marjorie P. Lee Retirement Community, following a very brief illness. Her family would like to offer their eternal gratitude to all the staff at Marjorie P. Lee who so lovingly cared for Kathleen in all ways. Everyone is invited and encouraged to wear red to Kathleen’s memorial service which will be on Saturday, May 25, at 3 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, 3400 Michigan Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45208. A reception will follow the service.
