Obituary of Elizabeth L. "Betty" Nerl

Elizabeth L (nee Rupard) Nerl Loving wife of Norbert H Nerl, who preceded her in passing in 2020, survived by sons Dale (Margaret), Gregory, David (Carolyn), and Tom (Julie), and grandchildren Emilie, Claire, Chris, Keri, Marci, Sean, James, Patrick, Kevin, Eric, Sophie and honorary grandmother to AJ Estell, daughter of the late William and Helen (nee Donnelly) Rupard, sister to Allen (Patricia). Passed peacefully on October 29, 2022, after a courageous fight with dementia and colon cancer. A breast cancer survivor and proud graduate of Our Lady of Angels High School, Betty was a loyal and faithful volunteer to Purcell and Purcell Marian High School in the parents’ organization and years of service to the basketball concession stand. Betty was also committed in her service to St. John Vianney Parish as a room mother, Turkey Festival Dinner volunteer, Bereavement Committee member, and mass lector. With her husband Norb as a greeter for the Church, former Purcell Marian principal Dennis Johnson noted in a speech honoring both of them as Boosters of the Year "...Norb meets everyone at the door, and Betty lectures them." Known as Aunt Betty and Grandma Nerl to many of the children in Madison Place, and friends of her grandchildren, Betty was a source of help and support to many new mothers and families in the neighborhood. The family gratefully acknowledges the patient and loving care from the magnificent staff of Pinebrook Gardens in Betty's final months, and the support of all of our friends during this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Purcell Marian Annual Fund, www.PurcellMarian.org.
