Obituary
Obituary of John "Bud" A. Veith
John Albert “Bud” Veith Jr. was born on September 23, 1930, to John Veith Sr. and Norma Ebelhardt in Ludlow, Kentucky. Surrounded by his family at the Hospice of Cincinnati, Bud passed peacefully on March 8, 2022, at the age of 91.
Bud grew up modestly in Latonia Terrace, and through hard work, determination, and the grace of God, he was able to build an incredible life for his 5 grateful children in Park Hills, KY.
Bud attended Holy Cross High School, and in 1951, he went to serve in the Korean War as a paratrooper in the 187th Regimental Combat Team. After being honorably discharged, Bud studied business at U.C.L.A., then began his career as a builder/developer, constructing infrastructure and homes for the market in Erlanger, KY.
He later joined the American Security Corporation, where he sold real estate investment trusts. Ever the entrepreneur, Bud soon thereafter started his own securities corporation, titled First Cincinnati Security Corporation, where he sold real-estate trusts and limited partnerships with over 30 employees. He went on to raise capital to drill numerous successful oil wells as a partner of Delta Oil Company, and in addition, Bud founded, developed, owned, and operated the wildly successful Reef restaurant and entertainment venue at the Watertown Marina in Dayton, KY.
Bud enjoyed mentoring his son Sam in the construction industry, through which they built restaurants throughout Alabama and Florida together. He also mentored his son Chris in the building of custom and spec homes in Northern KY.
Bud’s life will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Linda; his sister Sue Phelps; his children: John Veith (Debra), Andrea Terzo (Dante), Chris Veith (Amy), Sam Veith, Suzanne Wickelhaus (Greg), and James Kautz (Rosemary); his grandchildren: Nicole Winkler (Peter), Jeff Terzo (Becky), John Veith (Kendal), Justin Terzo (Tanya), Josh Terzo, Brooke Stubbs (Drew), Joseph Terzo (Sophie), Nick Veith (Dounia), Lily Veith (Jordan), Eliot Veith, Courtney Kautz, Jack Kautz, Bentley Veith, and Jocelyn Veith; 6 very special nephews and nieces; his 17 great-grandchildren; and his dog Rocky. “Not an ugly one in the bunch,” as Bud liked to say.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister JoAnn Hance, and his faithful canine companion, Tiger.
Although he’s gone, he’ll be remembered as a man of prayer. With every kind deed done and supportive word spoken, he loved his family so.
