WWII NESTER John (Jack) H. Nester peacefully entered eternal life in the presence of his family on June 26, 2014 at the age of 90. Preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife Virgene "Jean" (nee Reardon). Loving and devoted father of Jane, Pat, John P. (Gloria), Bill (Cindy), Mary (Tom), Jim (Molly), Tom (Valerie) and Norene (Larry). Cherished grandfather of Nora, Jeff, Michael, Erin, Janet, John F., Jacqueline, Elizabeth, Annie, Tommy, Molly, Allison, Andy, Patrick, Kathleen, Ellen and Matt. Great-grandfather of Maggie, Meaghan, Charlotte, Olivia, Eleanor, John Joseph and Rowan. Preceded in death by his parents Francis (nee O'Hara) and Harry Nester, his loving sisters Ann Silk, Pat Hinterscheid and Marilyn Nester and his brother Harry (Bo) Nester. Jack devoted his life to his wife Virgene of 61 years, their eight children, their sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews, his church and faith. Born on June 5, 1924 in Columbus, Ohio, Jack attended St. Charles Academy. Jack then attended Ohio State for one year prior to enlisting in the US Air Force. Following his honorable service to his country in WWII, Jack attended Notre Dame where he earned his engineering degree. Jack began his professional career at Graver Tank in Chicago, IL. where he met his wife and life partner Virgene. Jack worked at Battelle Research Institute prior to joining General Electric. Jack's career in aero space and aircraft work included working on the Gemini capsule, the F-14 fighter jet, and numerous other engine designs during his thirty-two year career in GE's Lynn and Evendale facilities. Jack enjoyed hosting family gatherings, Notre Dame Football and golf. In addition to being remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, son, uncle, grandfather and great- grandfather, Jack will be remembered as an honorable veteran who served with valor in the Pacific, coach of numerous sport teams and a perfect member of any foursome. Jack also was player/manager for several successful senior softball teams. Upon retirement Jack enjoyed drawing and painting. He volunteered with the talking book program for many years. Jack was always willing to help others in his family, church and community and will be remembered as a person who always treated others in a kind and caring manner. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 1st from 5-8PM at Justin-Thomas Memorial, 7500 Montgomery Rd. (45236) Kenwood. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 2nd at 10:30AM at All Saints Church, 8939 Montgomery Rd. (45236) Kenwood. In lieu of flowers, everyone is encouraged to make a donation to the Alzheimer Foundation, the Catholic Relief Services (crs.org) or a charity of their choice.
