Obituary of Koula Ponticos
Koula Ponticos, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, at the age of 90 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born on September 3, 1934, in Domianoi-Karpenisi, Evrytania, Greece. Koula immigrated to the United States at the age of 14 and settled in Lexington, Kentucky. She attended the University of Kentucky until her marriage to the love of her life, James Ponticos of Cincinnati. She was the devoted mother of three children, Greg, George and Sophia. The family resided in Clifton and later in Indian Hill. A woman of deep faith, she was committed to her Greek Orthodox faith and church community.
Koula was known for her warmth, hospitality and her gift for bringing people together. Her home was a welcoming place where family and friends regularly gathered for the dinners and parties that she loved to host. She had a talent for cooking, especially traditional Greek dishes. Her Baklava and Spanakopita were her specialties, loved by all and treasured by her family.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband James and her brother Chris (Lady) Collis. Koula is survived by her children Greg (Pam) Ponticos, George Ponticos and Sophia (Larry) Fields; her cherished grandchildren Alexis, Nikki, Jimmy, Jameson, Warren, Jay and Chris; her brother Constantine Gus (Alice) Collis; her sister Patricia (John) Pavlis.
Koula will be remembered for her smile, kindness, generosity and the traditions that she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She leaves a legacy of strength, perseverance and love of family and faith.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 12 from 10-11am at Holy Trinity - St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 7000 Winton Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45224 with a funeral service immediately following. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity - St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church or Hospice of Cincinnati.
