Obituary of Judith G. Brinkmoeller

Judith Brinkmoeller (née Griswold) January 17, 1941 – May 3, 2025 Judith (Judy) Brinkmoeller, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on May 3, 2025, in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the age of 84. Born in Wisconsin on January 17, 1941, Judy’s life was defined by compassion, resilience, and an abiding love for her family. As a child, her family moved to Cincinnati, where she grew up in the Roselawn and Kenwood neighborhoods and created many happy memories. After marrying Jim, the family lived in Finneytown where they had their five children. Later, the family settled in Kettering, where she often said the years spent there raising her children were the happiest of her life. During that time, she was a devoted and active member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church. Also, during this period, Judy discovered her professional calling in the field of oncology, beginning with a meaningful career at Dayton Internal Medicine. Second only to raising her children, this work was one of her greatest sources of pride. She was deeply influenced by her mentor, the late Dr. James Ungerleider, whom she greatly admired. Through this work, she also formed treasured lifelong friendships with Marianne Brown and Mary Ontko. Upon retirement, she returned to Cincinnati to be closer to family. Judy was the proud and loving mother of J. Mark (Sara) Brinkmoeller, Beth (Bruce) Nottage, Katy (Rich) Lonneman, Susan (Den) Brown, and Amy Brinkmoeller. As “Grammy” to her cherished grandchildren—Zack, Trey, Chris, Jack, Will, Anna, and Imogen—she found endless joy and pride in their lives. She is also survived by her much-loved sister, Holly (Mike) Butler, and many nieces and nephews who were especially dear to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Betty Griswold; the father of her children, Jim Brinkmoeller; her sisters, Susan Anthony and Taffy Steffen; and brother-in-law Rev. David (Duff) Brinkmoeller. Judy leaves behind a legacy of grace, strength, and quiet devotion. She touched countless lives with her kindness, compassion, and steadfast love—for her family, her friends, and the patients she served. A visitation will be held at St. Vincent Ferrer (7754 Montgomery Rd, Cincinnati OH 45236) on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. A private burial with family follows on Saturday at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Judy’s memory to a cause she supported: Women for Women International (www.womenforwomen.org), which helps women in war-torn countries rebuild their lives.
