Obituary of Maximilian Paul “Max” Schneider
Maximilian Paul “Max” Schneider, cherished son of Theodore J. “Ted” and Alice A. (nee Schwab) Schneider, loving brother of Alex (Bethany), Sam (Karsen), Dan, and David; beloved grandson of Paul R. and Mary Claire (nee Koehl); devoted uncle of Amelia and Rylan, and another nephew on the way; his aunts Mary Sue (Schwab), Jeannine Wadsworth (nee Schwab) and Paula Lemen (nee Schneider), six uncles, Andy, Nick, Vin, Bubba, Gabe and Gene Schneider, 25 cousins, and many other relatives.
Max was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended Moeller High School. He loved Cross Country, Lacrosse and writing, eventually becoming the sports editor for the Crusader, Moeller’s School newspaper. Max went on to graduate from Ohio University where he majored in Communications. After college he moved to Portland, OR where he eventually became a systems analyst for Pacific Foods and then U.S. Bakery (Franz Breads). He truly enjoyed his work.
Max also loved the outdoors. He was an Eagle Scout from Cincinnati Troop 18 leading the way for his four younger brothers who followed in his footsteps by also becoming Eagle Scouts. Max loved living in Portland, Oregon where he used all the skills he gained as an Eagle Scout by spending much of his free time outdoors snowboarding, snowshoeing, biking, backpacking, camping, hiking, and grilling out. He loved the beauty and solitude of the mountains and introduced his family and friends to many national parks, forests and scenic beaches. He was a natural organizer and leader.
Max had many wonderful friends in Portland and throughout Ohio. The local friends were with him nearly every day, and nearly every remote friend made the effort to visit him for a couple days. He loved them all and they loved him. Perhaps this says as much about Max as it does about them.
While naturally quiet and preferring to be in the background, Max always seemed to liven up a conversation with one of his uniquely funny quips, perfectly timed to bring down the house. He had a real way with words and knew when to use them. He did so all the way to the end.
Max passed away on April 14th at the age of 38, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. While he underwent many painful surgeries and treatments, and faced disappointment after disappointment, Max never complained. He simply took a few minutes to gather himself together and would say, “ok, what’s next?” or “well, that’s annoying.” He was an inspiration.
Max’s family will be receiving friends and family on Saturday, May 3rd from 9:00 AM until the time of his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Vincent Ferrer Parish, 7754 Montgomery Rd. 45236 where Max attended grade school. Inurnment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Montgomery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to St. Vincent Ferrer or the Moeller High School Schneider Family Scholarship.
