Doug and Sherrie and their family have and will always mean so much to me and my family. His welcoming spirit and calm humble smile, with just a touch of swagger, was something I always looked up to and tried to emulate. His honesty and ability to be a mentor provided me guidance and direction. He had a loving personality and hospitality proven by his willingness to always catch a boat coming into the sandbar or help at the corn roasts and host some of the best fish fries I have ever attended. We all loved to catch up with him and the family at the sandbar and on the few weekends they were not there they were very much missed. He will be missed by all who knew him, but the memories make me smile and love his connection to our lives.

Doug has always had a strong presence in my life. He and his family are my family. Every weekend of every spring, summer, and fall I grew up at the lake playing with Dawn and Brian. Doug was constantly helping every neighbor on the lane. He poured his heart into our lake neighborhood. As kids, Brian and I unwittingly frustrated the heck out of him but Doug regularly returned the favor by beating the living daylights out of us out on the water whipping us around on tubes while we smiled and laughed. His friendship with my grandfather and his buddies Bill and Angelo was like no other. While Doug was fixing or fishing they showed their love to each other in a huddle with constant bickering and squabbling, sprinkled with a few expletives, each knowing they were clearly right about whatever it was they were arguing about. As we grew up, along with learning valuable life skills, we also learned how to loosen up. After a hard day’s work it was “Natural” to lighten the load with a couple cold brews. I’m thankful for all Doug has given, from the many lessons to the beautiful family and friendship he provided. Let us celebrate his life!
