Obituary of Doris G. Lux

Doris Faye Gordon Lux, 89, died July 18, 2023 at Kingston of Ashland. Doris was born April 4, 1934, in Cincinnati, OH to Elmer Gordon and Eva Mae Mullins Gordon. She attended Withrow High School and Christ Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati. Doris married the late William Howard Lux, Jr. on September 10, 1955 and they resided in Madeira Ohio for many years. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Doris is survived by her daughters Melinda Sales of Canton OH, Pamela Hardiman of College Place, WA, Sandra (John) Steele of Wilmington, OH, and Victoria (Thomas) Selvage of Ashland, OH, her grandchildren Justin (Jennifer Spencer) Sales, Wyatt (Carli Hiben) Sales, Ethan (Katie Pawlicki) Sales, Phoebe (Andrew) Deddens, and Emma Sales, Emily (David) Wiggins, Lauren Hardiman, John Steele, Rachel Steele, and Megan (Fred) Pennington, Thomas Selvage and Eliana Selvage, and her great-grandchildren Aurora and Arlo Deddens, Lily Summers and Titan Mathas, Madison and Jayce Wiggins, Willow Hardiman, Tessa Sales, and Fred Pennington. Doris had a great love for children. While her daughters were young she ran a daycare from her home, caring for dozens of children through the years. Doris was known as a “good cooker”, famed for her grilled cheese and tomato soup. Her lemon bars were always best sellers at school bake sales. She enjoyed sewing and made many costumes for her daughter’s theatre productions, and she also enjoyed crochet and needlework. As her children got older, she enjoyed working as a registered nurse at Madeira Health Care Center and was there for nearly twenty years. She retired from that job to care for her grandchildren, but never gave up her love of nursing. She was always seeking to care for those around her. More than anything, Doris loved children. Later in life her greatest joy was visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Doris had a close group of friends that she went to kindergarten with who met monthly for lunch for many decades. She also had a wonderful group of friends later in her life that she attended classes with at the Blue Ash YMCA, and a group of ladies at her apartment complex that she loved to play cards with. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Doris passed away on Tuesday, July 18th at the age of 89. The family will invite friends to join them on Friday, July 28th from 12Noon until the time of the funeral service, 1PM at Thomas-Justin Memorial, 7500 Montgomery Rd (45236). Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park.
