Obituary of Roger L. Wheeler

Roger L. Wheeler, age 77, passed away at home on January 26, 2023, after a year-long battle with lung cancer. Roger is survived by his beloved wife Cynthia Wheeler (nee Clements), son Kyle McNary, daughter Erin McNary (Bill Powell), grandsons Mason McNary and Dalton Powell, and many friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents Keith and Peggy Wheeler, Jane and Bob Lewis, and brother, Stuart Wheeler. Roger was born on April 1, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Roger attended Wyoming High School and graduated in 1963. Roger attended Ohio University and spent his free time as a disc jockey and co-founder of the Hi-Fis. After graduating from OU with a BA in Liberal Arts, Roger served 4 years in the Navy, stationed in Cuba during the Vietnam War. He served as a security officer, and also managed the Navy’s radio station. His early career was that of a cameraman for Channel 5 and Channel 9, and he finished his career at NIOSH as a tv engineer for over 20 years. Roger also volunteered his time as Chief Engineer for Cincinnati’s Channel 25. Roger took early retirement and enjoyed collecting records and jukeboxes and spent time carefully curating an extensive record collection. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 18th, 10:00 am – Noon at Thomas-Justin Memorial, 7500 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45236. Memorial donations may be made to the Stray Animal Adoption Program or the ACLU.
