Obituary of Ronald Lee Goens

Ronald Lee Goens, 81, of Madeira, OH, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Central Parke Memory Care in Mason, OH after battling Dementia for over a decade. Ron was the son of the late Robert and Viola (Nee: Wilhelm) Goens, foster parents Frank and Helen (Nee: Todhunter) Mellinger and foster parents Oscar and Mable (Nee: Glass) Popp. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Donna (Nee: Jones) Goens, Children Mark (Adrienne) Goens and Ronda (William) Steffen, Grandchildren Rachael, Cora (Chase), Holly and Wade, Great Grandchild Marianna, sister Christine (Craig) LaVielle, and many more beloved family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents and foster parents, his infant son Wade C. Goens, siblings Robert Goens Jr., Edward Goens, Mary (Nee: Goens) Laub, George Goens, Louis Mellinger, Mary (Nee: Popp) McElfresh, Viola Popp, and Dolly (Nee: Popp) Peters. Ron was a 1960 graduate of New Richmond High School. He served in the United States Air Force and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. After four years and nine months of service to his country he was discharged from the Air Force in 1965 and in 1968 joined the Cincinnati Fire Department, retiring in 1992. He was an entrepreneur and cofounded his business, Ron Goens Systems, with his wife, Donna. Ron was an active member of his church, St. Paul Community United Methodist Church, the Greater Cincinnati Emmaus Community and The American Legion Post #630. He was blessed to be able to participate in many mission trips, his favorite being his trips to Haiti where he helped build various structures and spread the word of God to those in need. He would volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and Cairos Prison Ministries, making it a point to always put others before himself. Ron was a jack of all trades and enjoyed keeping his hands busy. He could fix anything and enjoyed learning about the mechanics of many things. Ron liked to be outdoors and loved spending quiet time out on his boat fishing and playing golf. He was an avid photographer and liked to capture memories from all his trips. He was a great dancer, nature-enthusiast, animal lover, and kind-hearted man. He will be dearly and deeply missed by the many lives that he touched. Visitation will be held Friday, February 17th at St. Paul Community United Methodist Church in Madeira, OH from 9:30-11:00am with service immediately following. Burial will be at the Rest Haven Memorial Park in Blue Ash, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul Community United Methodist Church or the Greater Cincinnati Emmaus Community, 8221 Miami Avenue, Madeira, OH 45243.
