Obituary of Norbert A. Nadel

Judge Norbert Nadel, a proud life-long Clifton resident, passed away at the age of 82 on July 10, 2021 surrounded by his wife and friends. He will always be remembered for his dedication to public service, kind nature, commitment to mentoring others, and sense of adventure. Judge is survived by his wife of eighteen years, Linnea Nadel, his brother Harold Nadel, nephews Alan, Brian, and Jeffrey, and his many beloved friends. He was born January 3, 1939 in Cincinnati, Ohio to parents Herman and Sarah. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1961, and went on to receive his J.D. from the evening program of Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 1965. While attending school full-time, Judge also supported his family by running their retail business. Beginning his career as a Constable for Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Louis J. Schneider Sr., he went on to serve as Assistant City Prosecutor and First Assistant U.S. District Attorney in charge of the Cincinnati office. Judge Nadel's career on the bench spanned forty years beginning in 1974 and finishing in 2014. He served three different courts during his time including the Hamilton County Municipal Court, the Hamilton County Common Pleas Court, Domestic Relations Division, and the Hamilton County Common Pleas Court, General Division where he spent the majority of his career. He presided over many of Hamilton County’s most notable cases including the Pete Rose case against Major League Baseball in 1989. After retiring from the bench, he was elected Hamilton County Recorder in 2016 where he was responsible for preserving and protecting the vital documents of Hamilton County residents. Among his many tributes he was proud to be honored twice by the Mothers Against Drunk Drivers organization as well as to be awarded Trial Judge of the Year by the Hamilton County Trial Lawyers Association. Judge Nadel was active in many organizations. He served as a Member of the Advisory Board for the Ronald McDonalds House and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Chase College of Law Foundation. A public visitation will be held July 19th, 2021 from 3pm until 7pm at Thomas-Justin Memorial, 7500 Montgomery Rd. (45236) Kenwood. A private service and burial will be held later for family.
