Sylvan repaired my shoes at his store when next to the Red Fox Grill on 6th street.
I worked at Esses Antigues on 4th and Main.
It was a fun surprise when years later Susan and I rented his 1st floor apartment on Erie Ave.
Living in Madisonville was like going home for me. My childhood was in Walnut Hills.
Rae and Sylvan took us in as family.
When I moved to the 3rd floor I had a world map mural outside my door.
Sylvan logged in many hours spinning tales of his world adventures in front of that map!
I played a lot of jazz. Sylvan said ¨ you know Karen, I played a licorice stick ¨; meaning a clarinet.
Stories and laughter are important.
He gave us both.
Much love to all of the family.
Mahalo nui loa,
Karen Miyano

Janet and Family , so sad to hear of your Fathers passing .
He truly was a legend in his own time .
Loved going in his shoe hospital while being raised in Madisonville. Pretty sure it was across from my Grampa’s
Grocery store on Madison Rd.
We were neighbors on Glenshade for 24 years of my life and he was the coolest ,most sweetest man .
Moved to Harrison Ohio and was working at Harrison Elementary School.
We were at a Christmas party and one of the teachers husband asked me if I was raised in Cincinnati . Told him in Madisonville. He mentioned he did some business there at a church and he had to go to this really old guys house to get the check on Erie Ave . Said he walked in had music playing real loud and had two pots cooking on the stove think he said sauce and soup . then he told me his name...
it was your daddy ...
I was so excited ! And happy to say he was my neighbor !
What a coincidence. Janet , I hope this lil story warms your heart and makes you proud to have such an awesome man to call Dad.
Praying for you my old pal “from the hood “
Sincerely, Cathy Jo
