Freda Flerlage

Obituary of Freda K. Flerlage

Early on the morning of November 3rd, 2019, Freda Koch Flerlage of Cincinnati died peacefully in her home, at the age of 104.

Throughout her years and in all that she did, Freda Flerlage helped all of those who came to know her understand what it means to love unconditionally and to invariably lead with kindness.

Freda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. In addition to leading a life of service to others in roles such as leading the Salvation Army's Home Auxiliary, Freda was an active member of her church. Through much of her adult life, she led bible study classes, presided over the United Methodist Women's group, and became a fixture in the church kitchen - always with an eye toward helping others.

Freda was a woman full of playfulness, who loved music, was quick to choose a picnic over a fancy meal, and loved swimming and boating with her kids, especially each blissful summer at the family cabin on Michigan's Glen Lake...

Freda embraced life with an open mind, a positive outlook, a dash of spunk and a wonderful sense of humor, and at the age of 95 could beat the pants off of pretty much anyone at a game of Bananagrams or Scrabble.

More than anything, however, she worked tirelessly through her many years, to make the world a better place and, in the process taught a great many of us to deeply respect this and use our own lives doing the same.

May we all carry it forward.

In lieu of flowers, please read a book, register to vote, or perform an act of kindness in Freda’s memory.
