Madeira—Albert Robert Christie, beloved husband for 57 years of Mary Anne Christie passed away peacefully on August 6 at the age of 83 after a lengthy illness. Known to his friends as "Al" he was born in Hazleton, PA where his family owned and operated a restaurant. From a young age and throughout his life he knew the value of hard work and the importance of family. He graduated cum laude from West Hazleton High School and got his Electrical Engineering degree from Penn State. He was a member of the Penn State Gymnastic Team, awarded membership in the Sigma Tau Engineering Honor Society and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He received his Master's Degree in Business from Xavier University. Upon graduation he joined General Electric Company, a career that would span 43 years. His work included managing world-wide programs for GE that developed into international joint operating alliances and offered him many opportunities to meet world leaders. He worked with an international consortium to build a pipeline across a country in the Middle East; testified at the World Chamber of Commerce in Paris, France: met often with Middle East & Asian oil ministers; worked with the Navy & Marine Blue Angel flying squadrons; managed a team of engineers who had the major role in maintaining jet engines used in planes during the Vietnam War just to name a few of his ventures. He served on the Madeira City Planning Commission and had fun coaching his son's Little League baseball team. "Dad was very old school in terms of family principles and work ethics," said his son Chris Christie of Montgomery. His daughter Suzanne Christie Nutt of Indianapolis, Indiana added that "My Dad was always my biggest fan. I will miss his sense of humor." In addition to his wife and children and Chris's fiancée Holly Berry he is survived by his brother and sister in law Ector and Jean Christie in Harrisburg, PA, and his son-in-law Steve Nutt. He was preceded in death by daughter-in-law Theresa Christie. He will be truly missed by his five grandchildren who adored their "Papa," Robbie Christie, Ian Christie, Kelsey, Christy and Michael Nutt. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, August 13 at 9:30am at St. Gertrude Church 6551 Miami Ave. Madeira. After mass, friends are invited to celebrate Al's life with his family.
